Shower Glass Door Buying Guide: Frameless vs Framed vs Sliding
The glass door is the centerpiece of any shower enclosure. Here is how to choose between the three main constructions and the hardware that goes with them.
Frameless glass doors
Fixed panels and minimal hardware create an open, high-end look. They use thicker glass (8–10 mm) and rely on wall brackets and a floor channel. Best for premium residential and hotel projects.
Framed glass doors
An aluminium frame supports the glass, improving stability and sealing. More affordable and easier to maintain — a safe choice for rental and high-traffic bathrooms.
Sliding vs pivot (hinged)
- Sliding — two panels bypass on rollers; saves space, ideal for alcoves.
- Pivot / hinged — a door hinged on wall or glass; wider opening, needs clearance.
Hardware & safety
Choose 304 stainless hinges/rollers and certified tempered glass (SGCC / EN 12150). Self-cleaning nano-coating glass reduces limescale buildup.
Maintenance
Use a squeegee after each shower and a mild descaler monthly. Avoid abrasive cleaners on coated glass.
